How to Handle Multiple Collections:  Assigning Name(s) to your current Collection(s)

In version 5.0, you can handle multiple comic book collections much easier than in the past.  For existing users, for each of your current collections, here is how to assign them a name so they appear on your Collection list, and in the Explorer View:

Select a Realms datafile from the Open Realms Data File option of the File Menu (or just use the currently active database)

Once you've selected an active database file, select the Collection Properties option from the same menu.  This will bring up the Collection Properties window

  1. By default, Realms will name the collection "My Collection".  Change that to anything you wish.
  2. Make sure the database location is correct (it should be)
  3. Add any comments that you wish.
  4. Make sure the "Use the Existing Database shown above" option is selected
  5. Click the "Save" button

Now, the Collection will show up under the assigned name where it should.

How to Create a Copy of your Existing Collection (not sure why you'd want to, but just in case)

Follow the same directions as above with two important exceptions:

  1. Give this collection a different name, so you can tell which is which.
  2. Make sure the "Create a Copy of the current database and store it at the above location" option is selected.

How to Create a New, Empty Collection

Follow the same directions as above with two important exceptions:

  1. Give this collection a different name, so you can tell which is which.
  2. Make sure the "Create a New, Empty database at the above location" option is selected.

How to Switch between Collections

Note:  You can also do this using the Explorer View

Select the Open Collection option from the File Menu.

This will bring up the Collection List window

Select (single click) the collection you want to open from the list, and click the Open button.  Double clicking produces the same thing.  To see the collection properties for any collection on the list, select the collection, and hit the Properties button.  This will bring up the Collection Properties window.
